Giorgio Armani has recently inaugurated a new flagship store in Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II entirely dedicated to accessories, in a move that and confirms the brand’s intention to strengthen its accessories division. Designed by Giorgio Armani and his team of architects, the new shop occupies 220 square meters over two floors and replaces the previous accessories boutique in Via della Spiga.

The store is divided into three main areas, each separated by portals finished in black lacquer and all including ash wood furniture finished with different colours. Men’s and women’s bags, jewellery, eyewear and fragrances are located by the ground-floor entrance in an area with silver walls and a green Persian onyx floor; a second room with gold walls and Renoir quartzite flooring leads towards the lift and staircase; and footwear and jewellery are displayed in the level above in a room with glossy blue fabric walls and South African quartzite floors.
The singer (who is appearing in fashion advertising images for the first time in her career) was shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott in London in a series of photographs that conjure the Versace beauty ideal as embodied by Donatella Versace.

The campaign is another example of the friendship between Donatella Versace and Lady Gaga that began when the singer wore vintage Versace for her video of ‘Edge of Glory’.

London’s Victoria & Albert museum has today announced its major fashion exhibition for 2014. Named The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014, the display will illustrate the roles that Italian designers and manufacturers played on the global fashion arena from the end of World War II to the present.

Drawing upon research from the archives of Italian fashion houses, museums and private foundations, the exhibition will investigate the aspects that made Italian menswear and womenswear influential over seven decades, namely the use of luxurious and high-quality materials, expert textile production, and reliance on regional manufacturing traditions and processes.

On display will be around 100 garments and accessories by numerous Italian labels including Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Missoni, Prada, Pucci, Mila Schön, Valentino, Giambattista Valli and Versace that will narrate how the international reputation of Italian style has increased over time, from the early 1950s (the decade when Giovanni Battista Giorgini organised the first ‘Sala Bianca’ runway shows in Florence and Hollywood producers opted to shoot films in Italy featuring glamorous actresses such as Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor) to the second decade of the twenty-first century (with examples of how the Italian fashion industry is addressing current shifts in production, press and retail formats).

The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014 will be open to the public between 5 April and 27 July 2014.

Following the fashion world’s recent descent upon Milan for the Spring/Summer 2014 men’s fashion week, several prominent themes and trends emerged which are set to dominate the upcoming seasons. From Prada’s heavy Hawaiian influence with bold tropical prints and florals to Versace’s loosely tailored suits and Jil Sander’s relaxed sporty separates, Milan’s catwalks celebrated masculinity with their usual dose of fabulous Italian flamboyance and flair. Take a look at the top four trends we spotted.

Oversized Shorts
There has been a definite departure from tight-fitting slim separates to noticeably relaxed and louche shapes. Take inspiration from baggy street-wear as oversized structural silhouettes lend a fresh perspective on staples. Pleated or plain oversized shorts showcase casual at its best.

Sportswear
Parkas are a super trend for S/S2014– perfect for summery outerwear. Lightweight parkas, anoraks and cagoules took centre stage in Milan. The sporty man with an edge is back.Prints
A splurge of floral and abstract prints and beachscapes dominated the catwalks in Milan. Vibrant tropical hues and tones hold their tight grip on the runways and on next summer’s style.

Innovative Textures
In addition to the traditional summer fabrics of cotton, silk and linen, the runways showcased some memorable and unconventional textures and materials. Shiny raincoats and waterproofs, a plethora of rainbow PVC and layers of leather injected an exploratory and creative edge to Spring/Summer style.

As a way to capture the spirit of the outdoors and the subversive allure of youth subcultures, menswear designers worldwide have been showing a keen interest in casual and utilitarian designs. And nowhere is this approach to sartorial inspiration more obvious than in the adoption of the denim jacket. No longer associated with only cowboys or social renegades, the denim jacket has assumed a ubiquitous status as the garment of choice for spring/summer 2014, as it was witnessed in the numerous men’s fashion showcases that took place in London, Florence, Milan and Paris in recent weeks.

Even though the denim jacket has more or less kept its original shape, its traditional fabrics such as sturdy cottons and practical colours such as black and dark blue have been softened and adapted to urban contexts by featuring malleable materials and colourful patterns such as florals or ombré effects.

Adriano Meneghetti is a designer of men’s accessories whose belts have caught the attention of The Style Examiner for their craft and inspirational concept. Born in Milan in 1986, Meneghetti grew up seduced by design but mindful of the importance of good-quality materials and traditional manufacturing processes. After graduating in Fashion Design in 2008 from the Istituto Marangoni in Milan, he spent three years working as a designer and creative director for other brands before deciding to establish his own business in order to realise his belief that craftsmanship can be reinterpreted through a modern vision and brought to life with studied and contemporary shapes.

His current Rugged collection for Spring/Summer 2013 follows this principle by combining contemporary elegance and tradition. Inspired by tie designs, its belts feature braided red, green and blue fabrics and washed, aged and twisted leathers, as well as brass and English silver buckles intended to last and improve with time.

Since the brand was founded in July 2011, Adriano Meneghetti’s belts have always been handmade in Italy but they can be purchased in 25 stores located throughout Italy and Japan.
