Paul Smith Albemarle Street store extension by 6a Architects

British fashion designer Paul Smith has commissioned 6a Architects to create his new flagship store in London. Extending the existing Paul Smith shop located on the corner of Albemarle and Stafford streets in Mayfair, the store stocks Smith’s collections of menswear, womenswear, accessories and footwear, as well as furniture pieces. In addition, a flexible gallery space has been added to the basement to allow for exhibitions to be displayed throughout the year.

The architects were also responsible for designing a new bespoke cast iron patterned façade for the store’s front inspired by Smith’s hand drawings. The interiors of the store include several striking features, such as square wood tiles on the floor of the menswear zone, ceramic tiles and timber planks in the womenswear areas, a prominent blue staircase, red picture frames dotted throughout, and an accessories room with walls lined with 26,000 dominoes whose pattern of scattered dots resembles that of an encrypted code.
