GANT by Michael Bastian Menswear Autumn/Winter 2013

For his Autumn/Winter 2013 menswear collection for GANT, fashion designer Michael Bastian found inspiration in the illustrations by American artist Norman Rockwell produced during the 1940s and 50s. Named ‘In Stockbridge’, after the small New England town where Rockwell lived and worked, the collection was centred on the reinterpretation of nostalgic portraits of mid-twentieth century America albeit with a contemporary twist.

Guided by this initial concept (and clearly dismissing the not entirely pleasant caricaturesque qualities of Rockwell’s illustrations), Bastian updated vintage American menswear classics such as checked shirts in soft flannel, sturdy cotton chinos, navy club blazers, Shetland wool knitwear and accessories such as boy caps and paisley ties in a colour palette of navy, olive, army beige and oatmeal with accents of burgundy, teal, forest green and dark moss.
