‘Somos Luz’ by Boa Mistura: Throwing Light onto the Deprived City

Spanish artists collective Boa Mistura (whose work we featured previously in The Style Examiner)have completed a new project in Panama City, which consisted in painting the words ‘Somos Luz’ (“We Are Light”) on a 50-apartment building in the neighbourhood of El Chorrillo.

Boa Mistura was inspired by the neighbourhood’s identity, and particularly by the colour grid spontaneously generated by every resident when they paint only the part of the building that they consider to be their own living unit. The new typographic layer modifies this grid by turning it into a community concept. The work (which involved the participation of the building’s residents) took over more than 2000 square meters, including not only the building’s façade, but also corridors and stairways.
