Singapore‘s Gardens by the Bay, designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects, has been today crowned World Building of the Year 2012 at the World Architecture Festival.
The 100-hectare complex is located on reclaimed land beside the marina in downtown Singapore and it comprises a large tropical garden filled with tree-like towers, shell-shaped greenhouses, a 30-metre-high man-made waterfall, themed gardens, a lake, tree-lined walkways, a playground and an events space. Wilkinson Eyre worked with Grant Associates (landscape architects), Atelier Ten (environmental design consultants), Atelier One (structural engineers), Land Design Studio (museum and visitor centre designers) and Thomas Matthews (communication designers) to develop the project.
