Over the last few menswear fashion seasons, it has been almost impossible to avoid the ubiquitous trend for oversized winter overcoats with dropped unpadded shoulders and very subtle (or even inexistent) tailored waist lines. As the collections for Autumn/Winter 2012 have shown, this trend is not expected to show any signs of abating. Furthermore, some fashion designers have taken daring steps forward by exaggerating the characteristics of this trend in order to create capes, ponchos, or overcoats that are expected to be worn resting on shoulders. If 2011 will witness the first attempts to make this dandy-inspired item of clothing a popular one, at The Style Examiner we anticipate that capes will be popular on menswear fashion shows for quite a few more seasons.
