If the penchant for leather has been a strong trend in Autumn/Winter menswear for the last couple of years, male consumers have to brace themselves for the unavoidable ubiquity of this material for Autumn/Winter 2012/13. As the Milan and Paris runway shows are usually strong barometers of taste and design trends for department stores and high street retailers, we are to expect head-to-toe leather looks galore.
Numerous designers resorted to leather, not just as by featuring leather trousers or sleeves of jackets, but going for a full leather look. This was present in garments by Hermès, Jean Paul Gaultier, Miharayasuhiro, Mugler, Rick Owens, Yves Saint Laurent, but not as blatant as in Jil Sander’s collection where Raf Simons opted for a range of dark (and almost fetishistic) sartorial undertones where black leather was the material of choice.
